Setting Up WebChecker Setting your location In order for WebChecker to be able to evaluate web pages properly, you must make sure you've properly set up the location of your Macintosh, using the "Map" control panel. To ensure that you've set it up properly, follow these steps: 1) Launch the "Map" control panel. 2) Type in the name of a major city near your location (.e.g, "Boston"), and click "Find". 3) Once the city has been found, click the "Set" button. Your computer now knows where it is located, and WebChecker will be able to evaluate web pages properly. WebChecker needs to know this because web page changes are stored as Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), and WebChecker can calculate the proper GMT offsets once it knows where you are. General Preferences   Browser Preferences You must select which browser you will be using with WebChecker. WebChecker works with either Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer. Currently, WebChecker does not work with CyberDog, because it does not support the required Mosaic AppleEvents. Sorting Preferences The items in each group can be sorted by their status, description, or comments. While checking the pages in a group, WebChecker will continuously resort the items. However, this can sometimes be annoying for large groups. Double-click Preferences You can select the WebChecker behavior when double-clicking a web page item. Double-clicking will either let you edit the item or launch the item. Expert Preferences   Session Preferences The session timeout defines the amount of time WebChecker will wait when checking web pages. The timeout period is specified in seconds. If you have a slow internet connection, you may need to give WebChecker more time when checking pages. You can also adjust the number of simultaneous sessions that WebChecker will create when checking web pages. Increasing the number may slow down WebChecker on slower Macintoshes and consume more memory. You can specify up to 10 sessions.
